Kate Middleton and Melania Trump Embrace Earthy Tones for Day Out in U.K.

Princess Kate Middleton was all smiles while stepping out for a milestone day with first lady Melania Trump.

Following a glamorous state banquet with President Donald Trump, Kate, 43, and Melania, 55, teamed up on Thursday, September 18, to meet members of the Scouts Squirrels program at Frogmore Gardens. The lucky Squirrels — the youngest group of the U.K.’s Scouts — were gearing up to earn their “Go Wild” badges by learning about nature.

Kate and Melania both embraced earthy tones with their outfits in Windsor. Kate looked gorgeous in a dark green jacket paired with a brown Ralph Lauren skirt. Melania, for her part, chose a camel-colored belted jacket and slim-fitting pants.

The women sat with kids as young as 4 years old as they made crafts. Melania reportedly joined in on the fun, coloring while Kate chatted with scouts nearby. When it came time for the badges to be distributed, Kate and Melania shook the children’s hands and applauded.

The president and his wife arrived in the U.K. on Wednesday, September 17. According to Hello! Magazine, Trump, 79, called Kate “beautiful” as they shook hands. King Charles III and Queen Camilla were also present to welcome the Trumps for their state visit.

As the president arrived with Melania, an interaction between Kate and Camilla, 77, caught the attention of royal watchers. Video footage shows an apparently awkward exchange on the castle grounds as Kate walked over to speak with Melania, who was in the middle of a conversation with Camilla. After Kate’s introduction, Camilla appeared to shoo her away from the first lady. (Us Weekly reached out for comment at the time.)

Social media users dissected the clip, with some arguing Camilla was warning Kate that the horse carriages were on their way. Elsewhere in the video, Kate was seen walking back toward her husband, Prince William.

A state dinner was later held Wednesday evening at Windsor Castle. Kate shimmered at the formal banquet in a silk crepe gown by British designer Phillipa Lepley, which she paired with a hand-embroidered gold Chantilly lace evening coat. The Princess of Wales also wore earrings that once belonged to the late Queen Elizabeth II and a blue sash, topping off the regal look with Queen Mary‘s Lover’s Knot Tiara.

Why Kate Middleton Didn't Curtsy to Donald Trump During State Visit

Kate was accompanied by William, 43, who looked dapper in a black suit decorated with medals.

During the dinner, Trump showered Charles, 76, with praise and noted the king “has uplifted the poor, cared for rural farmers and tended to wounded veterans like nobody else.”

William got a shout-out of his own, with Trump adding, “His Majesty has also raised a remarkable son in His Royal Highness, Prince of Wales.”

Trump previously visited the U.K. in 2019. Before traveling across the pond, he told reporters on Tuesday, September 16, “My relationship is very good with the U.K., and Charles, as you know, who’s now king, is my friend. And it’s the first time this has ever happened where somebody was honored twice, so it’s a great honor.”
